“Pointed gourd”; a Bengali vegetable (see Bangla-Flavored Fried Zucchini). Patol atol is the Bengali name, parwal the Hindi word for this cucumberlike vegetable (Trichosanthes dioica). Like most members of the cucumber family, it is believed to have valuable cooling properties, so it is recommended as a food for the hot season.
