  1. Slide the metal ring to the top of the retriever, about 3 cm (1 in) from the handle. Insert the legs into the bottle, and release the ring to open the legs. Grip the cork. The cork will probably be floating on its side, and you will need to grip it lengthways.

  2. To hold the grip on the cork, move the ring down the legs as you lift the cork out of the bottle. Even if the cork is lying lengthways, you should be able to pull it out of the bottle neck.
