Always made from the best and ripest grapes, vintage port is made from a single grape variety, and aged for at least two years. Not every vintage will be “declared” as a vintage port year; in theory, only the outstanding years are declared, which occurs only three to four times a decade. Vintage port will need ageing in the bottle for at least 15 years to develop its full potential. By the time it is ready to drink it will have a sediment and will need decanting.

A single quinta vintage port comes from a single estate (quinta), and is usually produced only in years when there hasn’t been a vintage declaration.
