Gas ovens are notorious for having hot spots โ€“ you can avoid these by rotating your trays, tins or dishes every so often. There is no fan to even out the heat, so you need to plan where you are going to put your foods. If you are baking a cake, put it in the middle or higher in the oven to prevent the bottom burning. If you want nice crispy roast spuds, put them lower in the oven, where the main heat is coming from.
