Brown Ear Otidea cochleata (L.) Fuckel syn. O. umbrina (Pers.) Bres. (illustrated 50% life size) Cap 3–6cm across, split on one side, subsessile; inner surface tan to dark brown, outer ochraceous-buff, slightly scurfy. Spores 16–18×7–8¼. Asci 200–260×11–12¼, tips not blued by iodine. Habitat on bare earth or in sparse grass in deciduous or coniferous woodland; autumn. Uncommon. Not edible.
