Geoglossum cookeanum Nannf. (illustrated 60% life size) Fruit body 3–7cm high, 0.5–1cm wide, flattened club-shaped, tapering into the narrower stalk; black; smooth. Spores 50–90×5–7¼, subcylindrical, 7-septate; brown. Asci 180×20¼. Paraphyses elongated terminally in a short chain of almost globose to barrel-shaped segments up to 8µ wide. Habitat in grassland, especially on sandy soils; autumn. Occasional. Not edible
