Stag’s Horn or Candlesnuff Fungus Xylaria hypoxylon (L.) Grev. (illustrated life size) Fruit body 1–6cm high, subcylindrical at first, becoming flattened and branched into an antler-like shape; upper branches powdered white, finally tipped black when mature, stalk black, hairy. Spores 11–14×5–6¼, bean-shaped; black. Asci 100×8¼. Habitat on dead wood; all year. Very common. Not edible.
