Beech Woodwart Hypoxylon fragiforme (Scop.) J. Kickx (illustrated 75% life size) Fruit body 0.1–1cm across, hemispherical; bright salmon-pink at first, becoming brick-red, later blackening; surface finely warted. Flesh blackish; hard. Spores 11–15×5–7¼, subfusiform, containing 1–3 oil drops; dark brown. Asci 150×8¼, cylindrical. Habitat gregarious on dead beech; late summer to early spring. Very common. Not edible.
