melzer’s reagent 1.5g iodine, 5g potassium iodide + 100g chloral hydrate dissolved in 100ml warm, distilled water. When added to a mass of spores a blue-black colour change is a positive amyloid reaction, a reddish-brown colour change is a positive dextrinoid reaction.
