  • About

Sailors approaching the Spice Islands of Indonesia could smell nutmeg (Myristica fragrans) on the breezes wafting offshore. Grate nutmeg in your kitchen and the scent reaches the next room. Parsis use nutmeg in dry spice mixes for its sweet warmth, and we grate it into or over sweets, especially those with milk. In Parsi food taxonomy, nutmeg is associated with cardamom. Please buy nutmeg whole and grate or powder it as needed. It keeps for a long time, especially when it’s still in its outer shell. A little nutmeg grated on warm sweetened milk is a household remedy for insomnia; a lot of nutmeg is considered narcotic.
