Similar to the Italian variety but more pungent and more predominantly aniseed in flavour. Asian basil is very popular in Thailand where three main varieties are used: horatha, which looks like sweet basil, only smaller; holy basil or kaprao, which is used in more powerful dishes; and lemon basil, known as manglak, which is hairy in appearance.
