Peperoncino

This is the Italian word for spicy red pepper or chili pepper. There is also a green variety that is slightly less sharp. Peperoncino is a key ingredient in pasta sauces in central and southern Italy, especially in Calabria. Whenever it is available, make a point of using fresh peperoncino in quantities you enjoy. Beware: It is very spicy.
