Also known as Rhode Island Greening, this apple was introduced in the mid 1700s by—you guessed it—a fellow named Green, who also happened to live at Green’s End, Rhode Island—and yes, the apple itself is green! Greenings are good for eating but even better for cooking and baking. Season: Mid-fall to spring.
