Also spelled Idared, this American apple was crossbred in the 1940s using the Jonathon and Wagener varieties. It is one of the largest of our common apples and, as the name implies, is red in color, but it does have a touch of yellow. Although these make a fair eating apple, they really excel for baking due to their firm texture and medium acidity. Season: Fall through spring. This is a great keeper.
