Aquavit

The name of this potent Scandinavian spirit means “water of life.” It is often flavored with anise seed, cucumber, caraway, and fennel. Aquavit is served very cold (usually right out of the freezer) and traditionally consumed in a straight shot while, according to Scandinavian custom, maintaining eye contact with your drinking partner. Aquavit has been made in Scandinavia since the 1400s. It can be distilled from grain or potatoes.
