  • About

Avocado fruit, also known as alligator pear, is scientifically classified as Persea americana. Avocado is both the name of the tree itselF(a type of laurel) and the fruit it produces. Avocado trees have been cultivated for thousands of years. The fruit is pear shaped, light to dark green, and with thinner or thicker skin, depending on the variety. Avocados are a drupe fruit, meaning they have a single stone or pit. When ripe, the flesh has the consistency of firm butter and a buttery, nutlike flavor. Avocados have both the highest protein and highest oil content of all fruits.
