Bitters

A concentrated distilled bitter to bittersweet flavoring agent with a high alcohol content that is used in mixed drinks. Bitters, usually made with herbs and roots, are reputed to act as a potent digestive aid and to stimulate appetite. Angostura, Fernet-Branca, and Underberg are several common brand names.
