  • About

The yellow flesh of this olive-sized fruit is encased by a leathery red, off-white, or black skin. Its flavor is similar to that of a prune. It is usually stewed with a sweetener. It can be used in both savory and sweet items or simply eaten alone. While the Chinese date is primarily imported from China, a small amount is harvested on the west coast of the United States. Also known as Chinese jujube and red date.
