Fruits of the genus Citrus, native to Southeast Asia. Botanists have estimated that the history of the citrus tree dates back 20 million years. The trees arrived in the New World shortly after Columbus’s first voyage and, from then on, they spread rapidly throughout the Americas. They thrive in tropical to temperate climates and are now grown in warm regions all over the world. Noted for its fruits’ skin and juicy, pulpy flesh, the citrus family includes citron, clementine, grapefruit, lemon, lime, mandarin, orange, pomelo, tangelo, tangerine, and ugli fruit.
