  • About

This hybrid of the muskmelon is one of the sweetest and most succulent of all of the melons. It is surrounded in a gold-green, netless, slightly furrowed, ribbed skin and has a moist pinkish-orange flesh with a spicy aroma. Crenshaw melons are used in desserts and pastries just like cantaloupes. The melon varies in size from 5 to 9 pounds (2 kg 295 g to 4 kg 95 g) and is almost pear-shaped, with a slightly pointed end at the stem. While they are available from July to October, their peak season is August to mid-September. A ripe melon should yield to gentle pressure. Also known as Cranshaw.
