A small, bright purple European grape that is grown mainly to produce dried currant raisins. Zante grapes originated in the eastern part of the Mediterranean in Corinth, Greece (the word currant comes from the name Corinth). California leads the nation in the production of the seedless sweet Zante variety, which grows in small, pretty clusters attached to the main cone. Zante grapes are also used fresh as a garnish for desserts, salads, and cheese displays, and small clusters on the stem make a very attractive decoration on fruit tarts and whole cakes. Available midseason.
