An ancient beverage made from honey and water. It was held in high esteem by the Greeks and Romans and was also enjoyed by the Saxons, Celts, Gauls, and Scandinavians throughout the Middle Ages and up to the 1700s. Mel is Latin for “honey,” and hydro comes from the Greek word hudõr, meaning “water.”
