  • About

A tropical fruit from New Zealand. It is also known as horned melon and as cucumber horned melon. Kiwanos are a member of the cucumber family. They are oval in shape, 3 to 5 inches (7.5 to 12.5 cm) long, and have bright orange-yellow skin that is studded with small soft horns, giving the fruit a very interesting and unusual appearance. For the most part, kiwanos are used more for decorative purposes than for their flavor.
