Kiwi; Kiwifruit

  • About
This barrel-shaped fruit is covered with a thin layer of brown skin and fuzz. Beneath the skin is a soft green interior, with the fruit’s small edible black seeds surrounding the pale green center. The taste is said to resemble that of strawberry, pineapple, and melon. Because kiwis are harvested in both California and New Zealand, two locations where the seasons are opposite, one can find this fruit in season almost year round. Kiwis are used in salads, desserts, and as a garnish. Pavlova, the famous meringue creation of Australia and New Zealand, is probably the best-known dessert showcasing the kiwi.
