A small, round fruit cultivated from a southeast Asian tree (Euphoria longana). It is somewhat similar to its relative, the lychee, but not as sweet. It has a thin, brown shell that must be removed before the fruit is eaten. The crisp, translucent white flesh has a single center seed and a delicate, sweet, and slightly aromatic flavoring. It can be found dried or canned and is eaten either as a snack or used in savory dishes and desserts. Also known as dragon’s eye.
