  • About

An aromatic alcoholic drink made with red wine, citrus fruit, sugar, and spices; it is served very hot and usually as a winter refreshment. In some cases mulled wine is fortified with the addition of brandy or another spirit. Popular in mountain regions in Germany, mulled wine is prepared traditionally with Bordeaux or Burgundy wine. Mulling is a process whereby wine, ale, or cider is warmed, sweetened, and spiced. A popular mulled wine made at Christmastime in Sweden is called glögg. Glögg is fortified with aquavit and served with whole almonds and raisins in each glass.
