The name comes from the Latin word pastillus, meaning “little loaf roll.” A pastille is a small, round confection. Pastilles come in two types. The first is a hard ball made of water, sugar, and various fruit flavorings, often sold in small metal tins; the other is a flat drop, usually chocolate flavored and sprinkled with Nonpareils.
