A dull greyish-green perennial herb, commonly used in sauces, it is also used in stuffings and commonly paired with onions. Sage is part of the mint family. The word is derived from the Latin word salvus, meaning “safe”; it was once commonly used for medicinal purposes. The French word for sage is sauge. Sage is available in fresh leaf form, dried and ground, or crumbled.
