(1) The fertilized bud of a plant, and its covering. A seed contains a miniature plant that is capable of independent development into a plant similar to the one that produced it. (2) To seed something is to remove its seeds—to seed a grapefruit, for example. (3) Seeding is a process used to temper chocolate.
