A form used as a guide when weaving ropes of pulled sugar into a basket. The form consists of a thick base made of wood or food-grade plastic, with a pattern of drilled holes and removable brass or steel dowels. Some models have several patterns of holes on the same base, allowing the user to form round, oval, diamond, or square baskets. Less expensive models produce a single size in either a round or oval shape, and other forms can be used to produce multiple sizes of either rounds or ovals; in these, the patterns of holes are arranged concentrically. The holes are drilled at a specific angle and spaced accurately to produce a particular shape. After the dowels are inserted into the holes, the sugar ropes are woven in and out around them. Once the sugar hardens, the dowels are pulled out and replaced with dowels made of sugar.
