This thermometer is used for checking the accuracy of the oven thermostat and for locating temperature fluctuations within an oven. It is configured with a pointer and dial set in a metal frame or as a mercury- or alcohol-filled glass tube attached to a metal backing. Both styles generally have a lip or hook to easily hang from the oven rack and are available with both Fahrenheit and centigrade readings ranging from about 100°F to 650°F(38° to 324°C).
