Aguacate, avocado (Persea americana)

The tropical pear-shaped fruit also called “alligator pear,” is usually marketed unripe. Rich in oil content, is nutritious, and used chiefly as a salad. When ripe and ready to eat, the flesh should yield when gentle pressure is applied to the skin.
