  1. Crack number of ripe coconuts called for in the recipe. Separate the meat from the shells. Remove the brown skin, unless the recipe indicates otherwise.
  2. Wash, drain, and grate the coconut meat.
  3. Squeeze grated coconut meat through a muslin cloth. Strain and measure the undiluted coconut milk rendered. Reserve the grated coconut meat to obtain diluted coconut milk.
