  • About

Dried apple snacks are one of my favorite bored-hungry treats—when you aren’t really hungry but are craving something. They’re slightly sweet, full of fiber, and easy to make. I have a food dehydrator, so that is my preferred route, though a low oven (200°F [95°C] or so) works well too; it just takes a long time, upwards of 4 to 8 hours. Inspired by my friend Nic Theisen, who is adept at removing unnecessary steps, I stopped peeling and coring the apples and now just slice as thinly as possible on a mandoline before laying out to dry. It is a lot easier and faster, and apple slices with the ribbon of skin and star pattern where the seeds were are lovely.
