Lemon and Salt
Cut a lemon in half and dip the cut side in kosher salt. With firm pressure, rub vigorously over the rust spot until it lifts and you see the black of the cast iron. Wash the pan thoroughly with warm, soapy water. Dry with a clean, lint-free kitchen towel, leaving no trace of water behind. Reseason your skillet.
Steel Wool and Soapy Water
Use fine-grade steel wool and firm pressure to lift off any rust from both the inside and outside of the pan. Wash away the residue thoroughly with warm, soapy water. Dry with a clean, lint-free kitchen towel, leaving no trace of water behind. Reseason your skillet.
