Zinc is extremely important for the production and balance of sex hormones in women and for boosting the immune system. Being healthy is beneficial to fertility as it means the body is working at its best, preparing for what nature designed it to do – conceive. Sperm development is dependent on zinc and there is a positive correlation between zinc and both sperm count and the strength and maturity of sperm. There are also links between zinc deficiency and early miscarriage. Rich sources of zinc include red meat, shellfish, seeds, cashews, pine nuts, almonds, dairy and dark chocolate.
