nigella Also known as black onion seed, or as kalonji (the Hindi name), these small teardrop-shaped black seeds have a tangy oniony taste. They are the seeds of the nigella flower, a garden plant related to baby’s breath and to Queen Anne’s Lace. Nigella is used often in Bengali cooking and also in other parts of northern India and Central Asia.
