  • About

pomegranates Sweet pomegranates, rosy red and firm, are available from late August until February in well-stocked produce sections and in specialty stores. Sour pomegranates are usually yellow, sometimes tinged with pink, and are smaller than sweet pomegranates. They are widely grown throughout the Eastern Mediterranean, Iran, and Iraq and used as a sour flavoring in savory dishes. Sour pomegranates are not generally available in North America, but many products made from them are available at Arab, Iraqi, and Iranian groceries (see pomegranate concentrate).
