shichimi Japanese seven-spice, or seven-flavors, powder, is sometimes sold as shichimi togarashi if it includes hot chile pepper flakes (togarashi). It consists of tiny flakes or powder of seven of the following: green seaweed (ao nori), powdered dried red chile (togarashi), untoasted white sesame seed (goma), white poppy seed, dried Japanese pepper (sansho), dried orange peel, green perilla (shiso), black sesame seed, and flaxseed (assa).
