Oryza glaberrima Oryza means “rice” and Oryza glaberrima is the Latin name of the dominant African variety of rice. Glaberrima rice is still grown in parts of West Africa, though it has been supplanted in many places by higher-yielding Asian-variety (Oryza sativa) rices.
