Thai jasmine rice A low-amylose long-grain aromatic rice originally from Southeast Asia, Thai jasmine is now widely available in North America. Similar rices are grown in Cambodia and Vietnam, but are not readily available in North America. Some American-grown jasmine rices are now very similar in taste, texture, and cooking characteristics to Thai jasmine. Thai jasmine has clear, crystalline long grains. It is usually absorption-cooked, and cooks to soft, slightly clinging grains.
