There is a vast array of ramen toppings from which to choose, and toppings are the components that are most experimented with. Besides tasting divine, toppings ideally also should be visually appealing. The most classic toppings include menma (fermented bamboo shoots), chashu (pork belly), green onions, seaweed, and ajitsuke tamago (soft-boiled eggs).

My preferred method of assembling ramen is as follows:

  1. POUR TARE AND OIL INTO THE BOWL.
  2. ADD WARM BROTH.
  3. INTRODUCE COOKED NOODLES.
  4. PLACE TOPPINGS ON TOP.
