Is a germ of approximately 250 species of flowering plants in the family Anacardiaceous. The dried berries are ground to produce a tangy purple spice. Sumac grows in subtropical and warm temperatures through out the world, the plant matures into small shrubs and small trees that can reach 1โ€“10 metres high. The maroon coloured spice is much used in Lebanese cooking.
