Is a germ of approximately 250 species of flowering plants in the family Anacardiaceous. The dried berries are ground to produce a tangy purple spice. Sumac grows in subtropical and warm temperatures through out the world, the plant matures into small shrubs and small trees that can reach 1–10 metres high. The maroon coloured spice is much used in Lebanese cooking.
