Warning: Capsaicin, the active compound in chilies, is a severe irritant that can cause burns on any part of the body it touches. Though your hands may not sense it when you’ve just touched a chili, a slight rub of the eye may lead to excruciating pain. Think of some other personal activities that may cause similar irritation, and you’ll quickly see the need for precautions when handling these deliciously incendiary comestibles. Disposable gloves are an excellent tool for avoiding incidents.
