There are no easy answers to the age-old problem of tearing eyes. Wearing contact lenses or glasses helps somewhat, but the only certain way of avoiding tearing is to peel onions under water. When you’re chopping onions, sprinkling a tablespoon or two of wine vinegar on the cutting board seems to help. If you’re painfully sensitive, it might be worthwhile to pick up a pair of work goggles.
