A medium-size ovenproof casserole with a lid, for cooking stews, baking puddings, etc., can double as a serving-dish for vegetables, rice, etc.
Flameproof casseroles tend to be more expensive, but have the advantage that they can be used on the hob as well as in the oven, especially useful if you haven’t even got an oven.
