  • About

Hortes (cat) usually at the edge of every village is an area of vegetable gardens going back many centuries, many of which are still cultivated assiduously. Equipped with wells, they contain fruit and olive trees, a seat, and a neatly rolled hose, plus perfectly kept rows of tomatoes, peppers, haricots verts, courgettes, melons and onions. The Occitan for garden is òrt; òrta is a large garden and ortalet is a small garden.
