This flat-leafed, long-stemmed herb is quite strong in flavor and aroma—almost medicinal. It is used primarily as a seasoning agent or garnish, most often with seafood and poultry. Fresh coriander is available in Chinese, Latin-American, and Italian grocery stores, called cilantro in the last. It will remain fresh for a week to 10 days in the refrigerator if you keep the roots in water and the leaves covered by a plastic bag.

Its distinctive fresh flavor is unique, and one I particularly love. If you have a garden, it is a very easy annual to plant, and it thrives in poor soil as well as rich.
