Aubergine, Eggplant

These glossy purple fruits of Solanum melongena are now familiar everywhere, many of them being grown in Holland. They came originally from India, where they are called brinjal. Beware the thin but sharp spines on the green stem.

There are also baby purple aubergines, small round white aubergines (below) and pea aubergines.
