Cancale is a town in Brittany that’s known for many things: its oyster beds just off the main harbour, seafood, salty butter, and Breton biscuits. It seems like every other shop is a food shop, an épicerie fine selling Breton specialities. It’s a beautiful place, with a lovely pier, a great market, and an oyster shack where you can sit eating your oysters, chucking your empty shells on to the beach like many people have done before you. The main reason I go there, however, is to visit the Grain de Vanille pâtisserie, owned by Olivier Roellinger, where one of the most famous millefeuilles in France is made.
